Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For whatever measure you deal out to others, it will be dealt to you in return.”
Our Church has given a lot to our community through the years. But, we were surprised, delighted and definitely blessed last week when Lowes Home Improvement Center donated a new playscape with landscaping and sandbox for the Infant, Toddler and Two-year old playground on the southwest side of our building.
Lowes is known nation-wide for their philanthropic work and locally for its work with Habitat For Humanity. Recently, Lowes Corporation gave our local store a grant to use for a special “Lowes Heroes” project to improve our community. Local Lowes Store Manager Jim Hendee asked his employees to submit their ideas for a worthy project that meets a need in the community. Lowes employee Katie Wilde’s idea for improving the First Baptist Church & First Baptist Christian School’s small children’s playground was selected.
An all-volunteer task force from Lowes, including the Store Manager, Garden Center employees, part-time workers and other employees with Katie Wilde converged on the playground to construct a new sand box, playscape, landscaping and new toy storage boxes for outdoor toys. Then they headed to Walmart and purchased all new toys. Materials for the project were valued at $2,500. All labor was supplied voluntarily from the Lowes employee team.
We are definitely grateful for Katie Wilde and the rest of the “Lowes Heroes”. As our church and First Baptist Christian School opens its doors for more and more ministries and ministry events the playground will bless the children of our community for years to come. Please stop by Lowes soon and tell them “Thanks” for investing in the lives of our children.
