Have you heard about our newest ministry? We have launched an English as a Second Language ministry for those people in our community who need skills in the English language.
It is difficult to overstate the significance of being able to speak and read fluently in English. For those of us who were raised with English as our first language, sometimes we do not realize what a gift we have. Many doors of opportunity will be opened for the people who attend this ministry. Imagine how one’s life can be improved – jobs, new relationships, filling out important documents, becoming a citizen, maybe even coming to our church. This mission is right in our backyard. People in our community need this ministry for the chance at a better life.
You do not need to be a teacher to serve. Anybody can be in involved in this ministry, and you might have the opportunity to share the gospel with people in word and certainly in loving actions. Let me introduce you to the ESL Ministry Leader, Sherry Taylor. Sherry captured this vision while serving on one of our mission trips to Thailand in 2015. This is what Sherry has to say about ESL:
“On mission last year in Thailand, God impressed on my heart a need for ESL in our community. So this has been over a year of holding on to God’s hand and letting go of control as He has led us on an amazing journey, guiding us through months of prayer and planning. We have now had 2 weeks of classes and He has brought 48 adults and 21 children! In ESL there is a need to keep classes small for lots of interaction so we certainly need teachers, class helpers, simple meals provided, greeters, and general help. If God is preparing your heart in any way for this mission, classes are Thursday evenings from 6-8.
